Prelude Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

Prelude Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

2020 Cabernet Sauvignon

Margaret River, Western Australia

The palate is open with volume and capacity. There are delicate subtle textures within; there is a black core fruit centre, unfolding within a mineral and graphite thread. Delicate notes of cedar and grilled almonds are present. Tannins are fine, long and elongated with a tight and vibrant acid frame.

From $34.00 per bottle

    Description

The nose is defined by vibrancy, fragrance and perfume underlined with violets and lavender. There is a deep and intense rich core of fruit, surrounded by blackcurrants and blueberries. Cassia, bay leaf, dried sage, star anise and cumin offer complexity and layers.

“A charming wine and one of the finest Prelude Vineyards releases to date. There’s a fineness to this, subtly from the aromas and flavours to the palate. Medium bodied, supple tannins, a skein of acidity tying everything together and lengthening the palate. It’s a little deceptive, too, because there’s plenty of detail yet it's lovely to drink now. So I did.”

“This is an incredibly impressive Prelude cabernet. Look at the price, look at the quality: if Margaret River cabernet is your thing, get on board. First and foremost it’s a structured red wine, which is exactly as it should be. It tastes of blackcurrant, bay leaves, gravel, choc and mint, with some leafy herb/tobacco notes around about too. It doesn’t quite have the mid-palate concentration or presence for really high points but it comes ultra close, and it promises to drink beautifully both now and in the future. Buy.”

"The 2020 Prelude Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon is juicy and bright on the nose. Despite its glossy exterior, the wine maintains a freshly turned earth/bramble vibe on the nose, which directly places it as varietally true. A honing beacon, if you will. The moderate to warm 2020 vintage is responsible for the density of fruit flavor in the mouth. Very good. The drinking window is conserva􀆟ve, but it takes into considera􀆟on primary fruit, which I personally prefer, to some extent, in most wines. This is characterized by cassis, blueberry, salted licorice, summer raspberry and even a hint of star anise through the finish."

“If anyone can direct me to a Margaret River Cabernet that matches this quality for a similar price, please do. One doesn’t normally think of Leeuwin as a great value winery – I mean no disrespect, nor am I suggesting that they are overpriced, certainly not; simply that value-focused wines isn’t really their thing – but that might have to change given some recent releases. The wine includes 1% Malbec. Deep maroon in colour. Very attractive nose, classically Cabernet. Some herbal and leafy notes with bay leaves and blackberries. Dark chocolate and cedar notes. There is plenty of grip here, and excellent length, with a minerally support system running the length. Drink this anytime over the next six to eight years.”
