Please select the vintage of Prelude Vineyards Chardonnay

2017 Prelude Vineyards Chardonnay

The Prelude Vineyards label focuses on the benchmark varietals of the region and represent the first release Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon from Leeuwin Estate each vintage. They are site expressive wines that encase the purity and clarity of fruit with a style that is readily expressive for earlier release. The label celebrates the Estate's association with the musical arts through the staging of the alfresco Leeuwin Concert Series.

Variety: 100% Chardonnay
Alcohol: 13.5%
Cellaring Potential: 8-10 years

Lifted and fragrant with an abundance of white nectarines, lime curd, Nashi pears and baby peaches. Heightened with notes of jasmine, lemon blossom and camomile tea leaves. Nuances of cashews, blanched almonds and rice wafers combine with brioche and mealy notes lying beneath. The palate is bright with great concentration, purity and clarity, whilst maintaining focus and definition. An introduction of grapefruit, lemon wedges and pear lead to a delicately textured, layered and woven palate with a creamy, baked apple and brioche feature with diligent oak and subtle texture. The layered and contoured mid palate is finely checked with mineral acid thread.

"This is one of the grandest and most well-appointed Prelude Chardonnays I have ever tasted. This label has gone from being the 'second' wine of the great Art Series Chardonnay to be a stand-alone, hero Margaret River Chardonnay in its own right. Of course, this is a little lighter and more forward-drinking than its partner wine, but if Art Series was not listed on a wine list I would not blink in ordering this magnificent Prelude in its place."

"Invariably a good wine to drink. This is as clean, fresh and straightforward as I can recall a Prelude Chardonnay to be. It's juicy with pear and sun-ripened peaches and at every turn it drips with flavour. There's a rub of creamy/cedary oak, and a welcome one, but fruit it is the main message here. Like it. "

"Fermented in French barriques (40% new) and 9 months on lees with regular stirring. Fruit-driven bouquet with pear, citrus and stone fruit most noticeable, and a background note of nougat or marzipan, presumably an oak influence. There\'s a good mouthful of flavour here, ripe and juicy, finishing with a grapefruit-like tang that lingers."

"Delicious chardonnay with cooked-apple, lemon and pear character, as well as hints of cream. Full bodied, layered and flavorful. All here. Drink now. Screw cap."

"Fragrant, with peppery white flower notes and orange zest details to the intense and juicy core of apricot and guava flavors. The refreshing finish showcases generous acidity and hints of lime juice. Drink now through 2029."
