Deep purple with an almost black core.
Some fragrant French oak gently announces aromas of discreet ripe plums and/or conserve of plum, growing in intensity as it warms in the glass.
The superb fruit ripeness of the vintage conditions carry the same rich ripe plum notes through with intensity on the palate. A generous structure within the delicacy of the fruit flavours is the hallmark of this wine, allowing it be a great accompaniment to the positive flavours of strong meat dishes.
We would see a future of up to 7 - 10 years.
"Meaty, spicy aromas of cracked pepper and cloves, red plums and cherries, with sweet cedar/vanilla oak over a hint of greenness. The lean, bony palate presents a mouthful of ripe tomatoey cherry fruit bound by firm tannins. Quite refined, but on the other hand, also rather rustic and green-edged. 90 points."The Australian Wine Annual 2005, Jeremy Oliver
"Medium-bodied; fresh blackberry and spice and the finest possible tannins; finesse, not power. RATING 90, DRINK 2009"James Halliday, 2005 Wine Companion
"...This wine is big, ripe, soft and balanced. It has a Burgundian-like structure and a lovely mouth feel. It has a fine, tight structure. It is seamless and the finish and aftertaste are excellent. It will be superb with food, 18.1 points."John Jens, Invinity Newsletter, December 2003
"4 stars - pretty nice wine, more in the Rhone style than your typical Aussie shiraz"Michael Lonsford Houston Chronicle June 19, 2006 www.HoustonChronicle.com
