Colour is dense and dark with a purple/black core. Succulent and opulent, the nose shows hints of French oak and lifted notes of spicy ripe plums.
The palate is silky and seamless, with the oak and vinous components in total harmony. The concentration and complexity of flavours is indicative of the mix of traditional and modern day winemaking techniques used.
The wine has a generous structure with super fine tannins and a concentrated finish, great with traditional and game meat dishes and will age for 7 to 10 years.
"The impressive 2002 Shiraz Art Series, obviously from a cooler climate region, reveals subtle notes of French oak along with a notion of minty crème de cassis aromas and flavours. Medium to full-bodied with decent acidity, it will offer lovely drinking over the next 5 – 7 years. (90 points)"Robert Parker Jnr, The Wine Advocate, USA, October 31, 2005
"Medium ruby with a bright rim. Very pure, expressive aromas of blackberry, dark plum, licorice, violet pastille and sweet tobacco. Elegant, suave and silky, with subtly complex flavors of cassis, dark cherry, smoked bacon, olive tapenade and sweet Tellicherry pepper. The expansive finish features fine-grained tannins and notes of juicy dark berries, anise and pepper. This is an outstanding value in high-quality shiraz Old Bridge Cellars, Napa CA, 91 points."Stephen Tanzer, www.wineaccess.com, July 2005
"Excellent colour; blackberry, raspberry, cherry and spice; plenty of texture and weight; subtle oak, good length. RATING 93 DRINK 2012James Halliday 2005 Wine Companion
"On the tart side, with a leafy edge to the tar and licorice flavours. Has some intensity but not a lot of definition. Drink now through 2010." 500 cases imported. 86 points.Harvey Steiman, Wine Spectator October 2005
"The 2002 Art Series Shiraz ($30) isn't your typical jammy Aussie shiraz. Instead, it displays a lot of smoky, meaty, peppery nuances along with its blackberry fruit."Laurie Daniel. Special to the Mercury News (USA) Feb. 15, 2006
"Ruby-red. Mineral-inflected blackberry, cassis, coffee and vanilla aromas are bright and fresh. Suave, silky shiraz, with fresh, juicy red and dark fruit flavours that display striking purity and focus. Supple, fresh and persistant finishing notes of cherry and blackcurrant are accompanied by fine, well-knit tannins. This was raised in 35% new French oak but it barely shows it. And it's also only 13.5% alcohol." 91 pointsStephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar July/ August 2006
